Made just outside the Ribera del Duero appellation by Mariano Garcia and his sons (Garcia was formerly the winemaker at Vega Sicilia), this primarily old Tempranillo cuvee was aged in small casks (mostly French). It boasts a deep ruby/purple color as well as a rich bouquet of creme de cassis, melted licorice, acacia flowers, and toasty new oak. Full-bodied, fleshy, and succulent, with a striking minerality underlying all the fruit, this extraordinarily powerful yet elegant, long, rich, heady 2002 is best drunk during its exuberant youth ... over the next 5-7 years.” (Robert Parker, Jr.)
